Personalized Patient Video
Case Study
Client: CT Orthopaedic Institute

Executives from Connecticut Orthopaedic Institute (COI) at St. Vincent’s Medical Center had stumbled upon a gem of an idea—a way to start delivering a higher level of personalized care to joint replacement and spine patients from the moment they enroll for surgery.
What is a personalized video?
Stepping back a bit …
For the executives at COI, it was a bit of a revelation. They quickly went from “how did they do that?” to “how do WE do it?” It felt immediately relatable as a way to welcome their patients and reinforce a message about personalized care. And they already had the delivery mechanism in place with Force Therapeutics—an app issued to each patient to help them manage information about their procedure from pre to post-surgery.
While personalizing video wasn’t new, up to that moment we didn’t know it could be done with that level of realism. More importantly from a technical standpoint, how was it scalable? Meaning, how could they accommodate every variation on name that was required?
Our team quickly found the producers of the video. They explained that it was a proprietary process that could take a database of names and instantly crank out a version of the video uniquely customized to each one. Same tags, signage, and tickets—different name.
Our Quast Team created unique welcome videos for both COI/St. Vincent’s Medical Center and COI/MidState Medical Center with numerous personalization points in each. Working in conjunction with COI, Force Therapeutics, and Varivid (the video personalization company) we delivered the videos on demand, through the dashboard on each patient’s app as they became enrolled. It was the first communication they would encounter upon logging in to the app.
Once configured, the database can be used ad infinitem to accommodate more videos as they are produced. It can also be used by other departments within the Hartford HealthCare system to reach their audiences in a similar, highly personalized way.
