New England Air Museum (NEAM) Uses A Digital Interactive Kiosk Solution To Tell The Compelling Story Of The Contributions Of New England Women In Aviation

CHALLENGE

The stories and historical significance of New England women in aviation is important for recognizing the many contributions these brave women made to the history of aviation as pioneers, pilots, astronauts and engineers, but just as importantly, helps us to celebrate and understand these women who found the courage and perseverance to overcome the gender barriers of the day.
This exhibit was more than 8 years in the making, including researching and gathering physical exhibit display items.  NEAM sought interactive solutions as a way to enhance this important milestone that chronicles both the important aviation achievements of these brave women, but also provides an engaging way to celebrate the passion and indelible spirit these women displayed!

SOLUTION

In late Fall of 2021, NEAM executives reached out to Quast Media, a leading digital marketing company and museum partner that had successfully assisted NEAM with digital technology solutions in recent years.  Quast Media’s digital experiences currently used at NEAM include interactive kiosk displays with customized content, 360-degree video production, augmented reality applications, and even 3D holographic content and projection.  The Quast Media team worked collaboratively with NEAM to identify the messaging opportunities suited for interactive enhancement, and the result was an interactive kiosk display that captures the passion, precision, excellence, capabilities and pioneering spirit that defined these brave New England women in aviation!

RESULTS

In early March of 2022, the museum debuted the “New England Women In Aviation” exhibit, complete with a new multi-interactive kiosk display created in collaboration with Quast Media.  The resulting kiosk experience includes two distinct interactive experiences, “Pilot Biographies” and “Historical Timeline”.
“Pilot Biographies” features up to 100 New England women in aviation pilot biographies, viewable by New England states or in alphabetical order. Each biography page contains the pilot’s name, birthdate and birthplace, a photo or video, and a personal story.  Biographies of women with military affiliations carry a special designation.

The “Historical Timeline” experience features a timeline from 1900 to 2021 featuring 25-30 significant historical events. Each event includes an image and story. Visitors can pinch/spread the screen to zoom in and out and drag the timeline to move around.
